Public Remarks
-
Hi there, I’m Congressman Dan Kildee.
Thank you to Ascension Genesys Health Club for inviting me to join you in celebration of Grand Blanc’s own, Grant Fisher!
Like many Michiganders, I tuned in this summer to watch Grant make our community proud at the Paris Olympics. Not only did he win two bronze medals—in the men’s 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters—he became the first American man to ever medal in both events in an Olympic Games.
With Grant’s help, Team USA had one of its most successful Olympics ever, bringing home a total of 126 medals.
Those of us who have followed Grant’s career weren’t surprised by his success. We watched him compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where he earned fifth place in the 10,000-meters and ninth in the 5,000-meters.
As a high schooler, Grant set records at Grand Blanc High School, won state and national championships, and became only the seventh high schooler in the United States to run a mile in less than four minutes. He will forever be known as one of the greatest runners in Michigan state history.
And now today, the very track that Grant began his journey on will forever be dedicated to him and his legacy.
It takes an entire community to achieve greatness, and I’m thankful for organizations like Ascension Genesys Health Club for helping athletes of all ages become the best possible version of themselves.
Grant, you have made everyone in mid-Michigan so proud. I know that you will continue to do amazing things and inspire greatness in everyone around you.
Thank you.
